May 30, 2008 - Wind Power to Bosnia-Herzegovina

STRI is right now performing a project for the independent system operator for Bosnia-Herzegovina (NOS BiH) including a series of measurements to perform analysis of the power quality in the transmission grid. STRI has in addition just received an additional contract from NOS BiH regarding integration of wind power in the same network. This is an important step in the STRI efforts to be a competent international partner for the expansion of wind power that now is happening in many countries. Read more...

May 28, 2008 - Blowing in the wind for a green future

STRI has recently received three important orders for the integration of wind power in the Scandinavian power system. Our technology managers for Power System Analysis and Power Quality & EMC Tech. Lic. Kerstin Lindén and Professor Math Bollen together with STRI specialist teams in Gothenburg and Västerås that already have been working with similar projects for EU and the Nordic are right now expanding their competence in this important area. STRI has also further developed our SIMPOW software with models and algorithms for wind power to meet our common challenge to integrate "green electricity". Read more...

May 7, 2008 - STRI creates Independent Interoperability Laboratory for IEC 61850

In order to support Nordic Utilities and industries with the introduction of the new standard for communication networks and systems in substations communication STRI has decided to invest in an extensive interoperability test facility. The IEC 61850 test laboratory will be capable of testing all aspects of the new standard as well as interface to SCADA/DMS/EMS. Security aspects related to remote connections can also be implemented and verified. The goal is to support customers in achieving seamless communication in power utilities also when devices are introduced from multiple vendors. Read more...

April 18, 2008 - Electrifying China with GIS for 1 Million volt +

China is at present increasing the electrical generation and consumption at a very high rate. Installed generation and electrical consumption increased more than five times from 1990 to 2006 to 772 GW and 2834 TWh. But this is still only about half what Europe or North America is consuming. And compared to Sweden the per capita consumption in China is just 1/8. STRI has now passed a new milstone, testing equipment rated for 1.1 million volt to be used in China to transmit more power to the people. Read more...

January 11, 2008 - STRI perform on-line PD measurements on a generator

It was STRI who performed the initial fingerprint PD measurements on the new generator of Ludvika Power station that has been taken into service on 2007-10-25. The Hydro Power Plant was orginally built in 1901 and has been renovated durig 2007. The Generator is owned by VB kraft that already has experience from the STRI SOLA concept with on-line PD monitoring in the Loforsen power station. Read more...

January 3, 2008 - STRI spreading knowledge on DG impact on the power system

The EU-DEEP integrated project has resulted in a better understanding of the way in which DG impacts the power system and in the methods needed to quantify this impact. The so-called "hosting capacity approach" is seen as a significant step forward in determining how much DG can be integrated into the power system without endangering the quality and reliability for the other customers connected to the power system.
