2009 STRI is celebrating our 20 years anniversary in the "High Voltage Valley" of Ludvika. Anyone remembers 1989? When we did not have Internet, no Skype or DVD, no mobile cell phones and the PC had DOS. During these 20 years we have had a fast development within both HV technology and ICT –Information & Communication. Now we are facing an even greater challenge that some call a new industrial revolution. November 17, 2009 - Smart Grid Seminar for a Green Future in Skopje
Europe has to significantly increase renewable energy sources during the next few years in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This will affect the design and operation of the power system. The Macedonian transmission system plays a central role in the region in a country with boarders to Albania, Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece. November 17, 2009 - Electricity and Environment in Greece Crete is considered to be the cradle of European civilization and it´s pleasant environment with sun, wind and salt Mediterranean water attracts many tourists today. Crete can also show Europe a green future since about 15% of the electrical energy already comes from wind and solar energy. The Greece islands represents however a more rough and salty environment for electrical insulation. October 2009 organized by NettedAutomation GmbH and STRI. Experts from: Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, and USA participated.

June 8, 2009 - Windpower study for Bosnia and Herzegovina About six months after presenting the results of a power-quality study, STRI was back in Sarajevo to present the results of another successful study. Like many other countries, Bosnia and Herzegovina has big potential for windpower. A number of potential locations have been pointed out in a study performed earlier. A recurrent theme in the discussions concerning windpower, not only in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is its potentially negative impact on the power system. Read more...
March 11, 2009 - The true meaning of IEC 61850 - Interoperability! STRI and Netted Automation GmbH arranged the second "Comprehensive & Independent Hands-on Training" for IEC 61850 in Frankfurt, March 3-6 2009 with participants from Europe, America and Africa. The multivendor test installation with IEDs from ABB, Areva and Siemens communicating over a RuggedCom network and equipped with an Omicron test set was shipped in advance from STRI to be the test environment for the hands-on course. March 9, 2009 - Course in wind power integration
On the 25th and 26th February a course on integration of wind power in the power system was held by Luleå University of Technology in Skellefteå, Sweden with 55 attendees from different power producers, network operators and project developers. The course was given by Math Bollen, who is guest professor at Luleå University of Technology and also STRI’s technical manager for power quality and distributed generation. The course will be repeated in Stockholm on May 19, 2009 (In Swedish). Read more...
January 20, 2009 - STRI performs successful HVDC testing for BHEL and POWERGRID of India
Extensive testing on overhead line insulator strings were performed during November and December 2008 for the Biswanath-Chariyali-Agra 800 kV HVDC project. This transmission line will be more than 2000 km long and increase the power capacity of the Indian transmission system with an additional 6000 MW. By harvesting the huge hydropower resources in the Himalayas the Biswanath-Chariyali-Agra project will give an important contribution to renewable power production in India. Read more
