Relay Protection Services

STRI provides a complete offering of consultancy services related to relay protection, selectivity plans, and training. Our staff has vast experience on working with relay protection applications from both manufacturer and utility perspectives. We have best and world class experts within this area. We provide services for the all aspects starting with specification, design, testing to configuration, commissioning and training.

Specification of Protection and Control applications

We help our customers with complete functional or detailed specification for stations, substations, transmission and distribution networks etc. In particular, this is very important when the new communication standard IEC 61850 should be used, right from the installation or in the future. The specification must cover all aspects of protection type availability, redundancy, communications structure and IT security.

Support for the protection application

Investigation of appropriate protection solutions is an important part of our services. This may involve issues around high resistive and re- striking earth faults, protection settings and selectivity plans or inquiries about the introduction of wind power in the network. It can also include network studies with NEPLAN or SIMPOW calculation and simulation tools to verify the voltage and frequency stability, protection equipment performance etc.

Studies, disturbance analysis and fault tracing

With our vast knowledge, experiences and access to tools for network calculations we offer our customers fault analysis and studies. If a larger disturbance or special fault has occurred, STRI can perform an independent investigation. We analyse network disturbance and interferences information in order to find fault causes and propose appropriate solutions. If the problem is on the network level, we can simulate fault condition and verify load and fault currents and voltages. We can even reproduce the simulated event and secondary system response in our test labs. Out of step conditions and harmonics can also be studied.
