What is accreditation?

Accreditation is a formal recognition that a company or organization has the competency to perform certain specified tasks within testing, inspection and certification. Accreditation means that the work of the company or organization is assessed according to a certain standard and approved. This means that the company itself cannot be accredited, but is accredited to perform testing in a given method and to a certain standard (e.g. IEC 62271-100), or part of it.

Test methods that STRI is accredited for.

To hold an accreditation means that there must be documentation proving that all requirements are met. If any documentation is missing there is no evidence that the requirements have been met and therefore the accreditation cannot be invoked.

A company or organization may have accreditation for only one test method, but can still use its accreditation for marketing purposes, although thus only one of many tests can be performed accredited.

More information on accreditation is available on SWEDAC’s website

What applies for an accredited report?

The rules for accreditation state that when the results are published in a report shall invoke the accreditation of at least one of several tests included in the accreditation. For calibration, at least 50% of the performed calibration is covered by the accreditation.

The rules for accreditation also state that it should be clearly indicated which subsample is a part of the accreditation in an accredited report.
